Where we go
Generally speaking, we try to go where we hear God directing us to go. For example: We didn't start a church in Nakuru, Kenya. We happened to meet an African driver (George) on a mission trip with another man who was working there in Kenya.
George told us of his vision to see African Christians really coming together as family, sharing resources, and taking care of one another. We encouraged him. Three months later, he emailed us to tell us he had over 60 people meeting together in a soccer field, preaching the Gospel door to door, and taking care of the poor.
We went to visit George, and we saw the incredible need of the slums in Nakuru. Orphans roaming the streets, begging for food, often with open sores. In the slums there's not much to beg from. AIDS is rampant in Kenya. There are 1.2 million people with AIDS (about 1 in every 30 persons). AIDS widows and their children can die of starvation or sickness in the slums. Mosquitoes carry Malaria and Typhoid. In the slums, people rarely have beds, much less mosquito nets to protect them at night. Sanitation is awful, as you might imagine.
So, we began looking for ways to help them. Now we are traveling to Kenya on a regular basis and watching God build a church there that is run and equipped by the people of Nakuru. We teach about God's love and commands and they put his commands into practice. God blesses them and they are growing up into Christ.
We have gone to India and Myanmar on mission trips and found similar conditions there with children needing food, clothing and shelter. We now sponsor Mercy Homes in both places.
We met a man and his wife who live with the descendants of Aztec Indians in the mountains of Mexico. They are pioneering a work of God with a very poor race of people there. They are building the church and God is making disciples everywhere they go. We recently went there to help with building of shelters and learn other ways we can assist Jason and Nicole at The Village Global.
